Description:
On most cases, it is important to check the affected device configuration for troubleshooting. Since we cannot get to the device itself in most cases, it is critical to be able to get it remotely.
Methods:
Below is a list of four possible methods with advantages and disadvantages listed and links to their specific how to articles:
1- Ask client to send you a copy of the device configuration file by email (self-explanatory)
Advantages:
It is a straightforward way to get it fast and easy.
Device does not need to be created in LCM nor be sending data to TT2.
Disadvantages:
Client might not always keep a local copy of the configuration file.
Client might have an outdated copy of the configuration file that's different from the current one in the device.
You cannot check FW version of device from the local copy of the file.
Advantages:
It is easy and fast to get if device is currently sending data to TT2 IP.
You will be sure this is the current file of the device, not an outdated version.
You can check FW version of the device.
Disadvantages:
Device needs to be created on LCM in order to request the file.
Device needs connect to TT2 IP in order to download the file, either by normal operation or forcing it through SMS command. This can take time.
Extension of the downloaded file is a generic .cfg which you need to change to the proper one before opening it.
Advantages:
It is easy and fast to get if device was updated via LCM.
You will download the file with its original name, which might give you clues as to what changes were performed with it.
File will have the proper extension.
Disadvantages:
Device needs to be created on LCM in order to request the file.
Only useful if configuration was uploaded to device using LCM "Device cfg update" functionality.
File might have been deleted from the server since it was last uploaded.
File might be an outdated version not representative of the current configuration of the device, which might have been modified using SMS or Device Center.
Advantages:
It is easy and fast to get if device was shipped configured and has not been modified since.
You get to know the lock status of the APN, IP and Port as additional information.
File will have the proper extension.
Disadvantages:
Device has to have been shipped configured from factory.
File might be an outdated version not representative of the current configuration of the device, which might have been modified using GPRS (LCM), SMS or Device Center.
