Explanation:
Calibration operates as a two-stage automatic process once Eco-Drive or accident features are enabled. First, the device determines the downward gravity vector while moving, then calibrates the forward axis by registering acceleration or braking events. It continuously refines these values during subsequent driving.
Guidelines:
1. Verify that the device is updated with the latest available firmware, which can be checked on our documentation page Downloads Home.
2. The installation must have been carried out according to our recommendations Pro5S Installation in Vehicle
3. The device must be properly secured at the installation point to avoid vibrations or movements; zip ties or double-sided tape can be used for this purpose.
4. The calibration can be started if the device has “Eco-Drive” with ACC, CAN+ACC or OBD+ACC in Data source, “Accident detection” or “Rollover detection” functionalities enabled.
5. Before proceeding, you can verify the accelerometer calibration status by using the SMS command: accinfo, the respond can be 2, 3, or 11.
6. To start the calibration, send the command accreset r, if at least one of the functionalities is enabled, the device should reset the current accelerometer calibration parameters, initiate the accelerometer calibration process, and respond to the sender with the following message: "Stationary calibration in progress"
7. To calibrate the stationary position, the device determines the G vector (downward direction). This is done only while the vehicle is in motion. Once the G vector is correctly determined, the AXL status is set to “3”; the device should respond to the sender with the following message: "Stationary position calibrated. Start accelerating".
8. To calibrate the movement position, the device performs a forward calibration. It is carried out by collecting 50 valid acceleration events and comparing their values. The acceleration can be either forward or backward (acceleration or braking). An event is considered valid if:
- The GPS speed remains above 10 km/h throughout the acceleration event.
- The acceleration occurs continuously for no more than 20 seconds.
- The GPS speed change is not less than 10 km/h.
- The change in direction does not exceed 5 degrees per second.
Once at least 50 acceleration events have been recorded and processed, the AXL status is set to 11, and the accelerometer is considered calibrated; the device should respond to the sender with the following message: "Calibration successful"
9. Since calibration depends on a relatively large number of acceleration and braking events, the device will not calibrate successfully if the vehicle keeps driving in a straight line at relatively constant speed, for example in a motorway. If the vehicle is driving in a city, calibration can be expected to finish in around an hour of driving.
10. If the device was restarted during the calibration process, the calibration process should not continue, and a new calibration should be initiated.
11. A dedicated IO can be used to monitor the calibration state IO ID 905 Axl Calibration Sate.
Expected outcome: The device can now accurately detect Eco-Drive scores, harsh maneuvers, and accident telemetry in real time.
